Deacons & Deaconesses

Job Summary: Responsible for the service of bringing spiritual comfort and hope to the members of the CVAC family. Caring for the various tasks which need to be performed during the church services, and light maintenance of the church property. All deacons and deaconesses are selected by the Nominating Committee.

Ministry Responsibilities:

  • The Deacon of the day will be responsible for opening and securing the church building following the Sabbath services — this includes lights, doors, windows, and thermostats.
  • Deacons and Deaconesses will assist baptismal candidates, respecting gender.
  • Deacons and Deaconesses will be teamed up with a partner (including the Elders) for the purpose of visitation.
  • All Deacons and Deaconesses will be ready to serve of Communion Sabbaths.
  • The Deacon leader will assign a deacon to fill the baptistry when needed.
  • The Deaconess leader will assign Deaconesses to care for the following items for Communion Sabbaths:

    1. Unleavened Bread & Grape Juice

    2. Arranging the Communion Table

    3. Preparation of basins and towels

  • During worship services all Deacons & Deaconesses should be on guard to assist parent’s with infants and small children.
  • The Deacon Leader should occasionally check with the other Department leaders to make sure their supplies and equipment are stocked and good working order.
  • The Deacon and Deaconess Leaders should see that ‘Junior’ Deacons and Deaconesses are being trained, mentored, and allowed to serve and help in the services of the church.
  • The Deacon and Deaconess Leaders will represent the concerns of their department as members on the Church Board.
