I. We are approaching the midnight hour. (Example: The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere.)

A. The call is given to Christians. Awake! Watch! Mark 13:35-37

B. Tired of watching.

1. Weary — tired of waiting. Saying this for years.

2. Indifferent — Let’s get on with life. Need to be concerned about making a living.

3. Disappointed — I believed that once, but nothing happened. 2 Peter 3:3, 4

4. Careless.

a. Christ coming as a thief in the night

b. We don’t know, so why worry? 1 Thessalonians 5:1-6

C. Parable of the Ten Virgins.

1. Matthew 25:1-13

2. The oil is the Holy Spirit.

a. Accept the truth of God’s Word.

b. Advocates of the truth.

c. They are attracted to those who believe the truth.

d. Without the Spirit of God, a knowledge of His word is of no avail.

e. Is it possible to know all this and miss eternal life?

3. I do not know you

a. 50 percent didn’t make it. They were church members.

b. Matthew 7:22, 23

c. Rich young ruler. Matthew 19:16, 17, 20

d. 2 Timothy 3:1-5

e. John 17:3

4. Blessing to those who watch. Luke 12:37

5. The bridegroom came at midnight — the darkest hour. Christ will come back at the darkest period of this earth’s history.

II. Where is the problem?

A. Life is found only in Jesus Christ.

2. Who is this Jesus Christ

a. God said, My beloved Son. Matthew 3:17

b. John the Baptist said, The Lamb of God. John 1:29

c. Peter said, You are the Christ. Matthew 16:16

d. Jesus said, I am the Light of the world. John 8:12

B. The Light that Jesus gives. Acts 26:18

1. Forgiveness of sins.

a. 1 John 1:9

b. Ephesians 1:7

2. Sanctified by faith. Acts 26:18

a. 1 John 5:4

b. Story of Abraham. Romans 4:19-22

3. Can’t trust my own directions

a. Proverbs 14:21

4. I must look to the Lord

a. Proverbs 3:5, 6

5. Jesus is the way.

C. Where we are in the stream of time

1. Two indicators

a. Prophetic time line. 2 Peter 1:19

b. Signs of Christ’s return. Matthew 24:33

2. The danger today

a. Call given at midnight, Matthew 25:6

b. Day came upon you unexpectenly. Luke 21:34

c. As in the day of Noah. Matthew 24:37-39
