Cooperation Brings Hope

The Community Services Department of the Connecticut Valley Adventist Church in cooperation with the Human Services Department of the Town of South Windsor is bringing hope to our community. In March of 1998 the Connecticut Valley Adventist Church began feeding the eligible members of our community who are in need of meals on Saturday and Sunday.

Church members and volunteers from the community make up a force of workers which cook, package, and deliver the meals to about 30 clients every Saturday and Sunday. This service is free to the clients and the town.

Potential meal recipients are screened by the Human Services Department, and the names are then passed on to the church. Meals are prepared to meet the needs of special diets and medical conditions. Some recipients receive meals long term, while others may be signed up for only one weekend.

The meal deliveries on the weekend provide a vital contact with the clients who enjoy the companionship.

The whole process — the food shopping, the food preparation, the packaging of the meals, and the delivery of the meals — is a joy while serving our community.
